Christian

I am a committed Christian and a member of Woodmont Baptist Church in Florence, AL. I raised my children with traditional Christian values and a respect for the vision of our founding fathers. I am solidly pro-life, and I believe that parents should have the final say on how they raise their children and what they are taught in school. I will always vote to support Christian cultural values that have served America so well.

Conservative

I believe in low taxes, less regulation, and agree with Ronald Reagan that government is usually the problem—not the solution! My conservative upbringing helped shape my political philosophy.  I am a consistent social and fiscal conservative and will represent our Alabama values on the State School Board.

Republican

My father, Francis “Frank” Long, was elected as a Republican judge in 1994 to the Court of Criminal Appeals.  He was the first Republican to serve as Presiding Judge of this court in over 100 years.  I served as the Lauderdale County Republican Chairman for two years and have served on the Alabama State Republican Executive Committee for eight years.

Welcome!

Thank you for visiting my website!  I am an ENT (Ear, Nose, and Throat) doctor and small business owner from Northwest Alabama…not a politician!  I decided to run for State School Board District 7 because I’m concerned about the education children are receiving here in Alabama.  Nothing is more important to our state’s future than the quality of the education it provides to our children.

Please take a moment to read my bio to learn more about my background, my qualifications, and my conservative upbringing.  I served on the Board of Trustees at the University of North Alabama from 1994-2006, and as a Trustee for Shoals Christian School from 2001-2016. These two roles granted me priceless experience in both public and private education.

Sadly, Alabama’s educational rankings are very poor.  According to the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NEAP) 2019 report cards, Alabama’s 4th graders ranked 49th in reading and 52nd in math (includes D.C. and Puerto Rico).  Although these rankings did improve slightly by 2022 (39th in reading and 40th in math), they are still unacceptably low.  The bureaucrats who have run public education in Alabama have perpetuated failing policies that will handicap our children and our state’s economic development for decades to come.

I refuse to sit idly by and let another generation of Alabama’s children receive a sub-standard education.  I have a real plan to fix our broken system.  It’s not another gimmick, another standardized test, or a request for a tax increase.  It’s a conservative platform that includes school choice, the elimination of common core standards, and a reduction in red tape.

It will include the expansion of dual enrollment and Advanced Placement (AP) options in high schools, eliminating “woke” ideology from our curriculum, and putting parents back in the driver’s seat with their children’s education. I hope you’ll take time to learn more about my stance on the issues here.

I believe we need a conservative outsider with bold ideas and no personal agenda to represent us in Montgomery.  I’m not afraid to vote for change, because maintaining the status quo will continue to give us lackluster results.  I humbly ask for your vote.  I pledge to stand for you, NOT the Montgomery special interests. Together, we can improve Alabama’s education!

Sincerely,
Dr. Allen Long
